Wesley Collins O'Neal

Wesley O’Neal was born on October 3, 2003 and was set free on July 27, 2022 at the young age of 18.

Compassionate, intelligent, witty are a few words that classmates, coaches, teachers and friends used to describe Wes. His depth of compassion was not only recognized by others, but exercised through his work reffing young soccer players over the past 4 years, volunteering weekly with animal rescues, and helping his peers at school. The simplest gesture like helping his grandparents with household projects and yardwork, didn’t go unnoticed. He exuded selflessness and joy to be with others and give to those around him.

Where Wesley really shined was with his academic achievements.  Most recently he was recognized as a National Merit Scholar with a 5 year academic scholarship to attend the University of Alabama. Anyone who spent time with him knew his love for learning.

Growing up he had such enthusiasm for sports both as a fan and participant.  He and dad shared hours on the field together and in the stands watching professional teams. Football and basketball were two of his favorites to watch, and he spent over 10 years active in soccer and baseball. Where he truly found solace was in the beauty of nature and traveling to new places with his family. From the mountains to the oceanside, walking museums to theme parks he loved it all. Camping and fishing especially ignited his desire for adventure and brought peacefulness and joy to his soul.

Wesley will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: parents Terry and Dana O’Neal, younger sisters Aubrey and Gwen, grandparents: Terry and Janice O’Neal & Jerry and Sheila Eckart. His uncles, Mark Arnold, Rick Eckart, Eddie Eckart and wife Toni. Cousins: Kylie Stewart and husband Kevin, Cole Arnold, Jacob, Laura and Colby Eckart. His devoted dogs: Lacey, Ryder and always his favorite Rusty.

Wesley was preceded in death by his dear Aunt Luci on July 26, 2022.
